Discussing research and other joint topics with the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the CAS

6.8.2026

Representatives of VÚSH visited the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals of the Czech Academy of Sciences for a meeting with its Director, Michal Šyc, Ph.D., who also leads the Waste Management and Sustainable Technologies research group.

The meeting provided an opportunity to compare the research expertise and facilities of both organisations and to identify areas in which their capabilities could complement each other. The discussion focused primarily on the recovery of raw materials from primary and secondary sources, advanced separation processes and more efficient use of resources within the circular economy.

The Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals has extensive experience in the design, development and validation of separation technologies. Its specialist expertise and laboratory facilities could also support research into construction materials, the processing of industrial by-products and the recovery of valuable components from secondary raw materials.

The visit included a tour of laboratory and pilot-scale equipment, followed by a discussion of current research projects. The connection between chemical processes and materials research emerged as one of the main areas to be developed through further cooperation.

Joint Preparations for ICBMPT 2027

Another important part of the meeting concerned preparations for the 30th International Conference on Building Materials, Products and Technologies – ICBMPT 2027. The conference is expected to be organised jointly by VÚSH, the Institute of Chemical Process Fundamentals and the Transport Research Centre.

The participants discussed the prospective scientific focus of the conference and the involvement of the partner institutions in its programme. One of the key topics currently under consideration is the use of advanced artificial intelligence tools in research, development and materials engineering.

A follow-up meeting will take place at VÚSH in September 2026. It will focus on defining specific research topics, exploring opportunities for joint projects and continuing the development of the scientific programme for ICBMPT 2027.
